Koike Residence, home of a Tokaido Village Headman

Satta Pass

In the Edo period (1603 - 1868), for generations the Koike family played the most important role of village headman in Terao village, which is located between Yui-shuku and Okitsu-shuku. The current building was built in the Meiji period (1868 - 1912). The traditional folk house architecture gives a sense of times past, with a dignified appearance befitting the home of the influential family that once lived here.
