A town that prospered as a main port for shipping goods to Edo

Ejiri-shuku, the 18th post station on the Tokaido Road, was a castle town built by the Koshu Takeda Clan, and it prospered as a center of trade and industry. The Tomoe River running through the town was used to transport materials for the construction of Sumpu Castle, and Shimizu Port on the mouth of the river was an important hub for shipping to Edo, so Ejiri-shuku also became a bustling port town.

After giving all their dumplings to a dog at Okitsu-shuku, Yaji and Kita march silently through the rain. The rain stops by the time they reach Ejiri-shuku, and they find their steps naturally becoming lighter.
They have a lively conversation with a pack-horse driver, and pretend to snore while riding comfortably on horseback, then they arrive at Fuchu-shuku in no time at all.
