There is a record of chocolate being introduced to Japan through Nagasaki in the Edo period. Sumpu Ryouka are modeled after chocolate from the Edo period and developed as a snack to take on walking journeys like that of Yaji and Kita. These chocolates are mixed with ingredients used in the Edo period.
